The parlour has a likeness to a sterile canvas painted with intensive paint colours and strokes. It is hidden away on the corner of Carlisle and chapel street. On first impression, it looks more like a very cool lounge bar with lots of cool people chilliing out. On close inspection, the parlour is a cutting edgehair salon, with lots of coolness thrown into . The owner, Geoff, aka Artist!, makes his clients feel like they are getting an art piece put on their heads!….After having a chat with him, i have this urge to grow my hair and get the geoff “special”.

Aussie Icons out there, be careful.

All you Aussie Icons or class yourself as Aussie legends, out there, take care. It seems that they are falling like flies. First, its was Steve Irwin, and today Peter Brock. Peter just passed away in a race accident in western australia.

All of us aussies, will miss you both. Here is a short story of peter.

After 30 years of racing, the career of Australia’s best known motor sport personality is about to come to an end. At the conclusion of the Primus 1000 Classic at Bathurst on Sunday October 19, Peter Brock will retire from the front line of racing.

Over those 3 decades, Brock has set records which will possibly never be achieved by any other driver. 9 wins in both the Sandown and Bathurst endurance events, 3 Touring Car Championships, a Round Australia Rally victory and all the while, building up an outstanding relationship with fans and sponsors alike.

From his start in a Holden-powered Austin-A30, through Toranas and a variety of Commodores - including rally cars - Brock has for the majority of his career, driven a Holden for Holden’s.

Brock’s decision to retire was certainly not performance related. During this year’s Touring Car Championship, he took a round win and scored two pole positions, finishing the series in 6th place.

Sharing the #05 Mobil Holden Racing Team Commodore with Brock at Sandown and Bathurst will be Mark Skaife, which will give the 52 year old his best possible chance of securing memorable 10th wins at both events.

Peter’s “retirement” will be from racing only. A flourishing media career awaits, along with long term sponsorship commitments with Mobil and Holden’s, the public speaking circuit and who knows, maybe even some time at home!

Spring Carnival is Coming again. Get your gut linings ready!!!!

Weather is getting warmer, afternoon is getting longer…and AFL grand final day is approaching…and hints of spring carnival fever is heating up. The spring carnival is definitely melbourne’s pride and joy. 3 months of drunken and fashion mayhem.

The Spring Racing Carnival is Australia’s largest sporting and social event, but it’s almost certainly bigger than you think. It incorporates 79 race meetings across the state, with more than 730,000 people attending the Spring Racing Carnival in 2005 and injecting $524 million into the Victorian economy.

Whether for you it’s the horses; the jockeys and trainers; the fashion, colour and glamour, or just a great day out, this year’s Spring Racing Carnival will be bigger and better than ever before.

The Spring Racing Carnival is officially launched in Melbourne on Thursday 5 October and concludes at Cranbourne on 23 November 2006.

Linden New exhibitions. St Kilda

Bill Sampson describes his work Gorgeous But … in gallery 1 (front) as ‘marks manufactured/made by marbling – the sort of thing done in primary school. Little deliberation and no expression – reminiscent of Warhol having his assistants urinate on the etching plates. They are pretty. Some will add, “pretty bad”!’

Mirrors are used as a tool for spatial distortion and investigation in the work of Antonia Goodfellow. Her new work Hive Relic in gallery 1 (rear), in which she utilizes Islamic systems of geometry to create a cubic tessellation, considers the concept and paradox of Infinity – scientifically, culturally, technologically, spiritually and ecologically. Every step in the process has been meticulously mapped out and the work is made entirely by hand. The objective was to make 23 model cities in 23 days. The mirrors are configured to best utilise the quality of stereoscopic depth, the space inside the mirror plane that invites an opening or passage into other spaces.

Experience of place is what is at the heart of French artist Marie-Jeanne Hoffner’s installation Heimlich - What Belongs To The House in galleries 2, 3 &5. The studio is an important part of her practice and is often the place that initiates investigation. It can be the physical starting point of the work allowing for reflection on space and how we inhabit it. For her exhibition at Linden, her house in France will be re-presented in three different states: it is described on video by a group of students from Monash University; it is an installation made from leftover wood found on the streets of Melbourne; and bits and pieces of what belongs to her actual house, along with fragile outlines and drawings.

Alicia King’s installation I’m Growing To Love You in gallery 4, suggests forms both internal and external to the body, in which life may exist, disguised, or in un-recognizable form. Nature is made strange by combining elements of the body, composed of cultured human tissue with fragments from a nature unknown, in an innate metamorphosis between body and environment. This work opens up extended locations and perspectives for subjectivity; a morphosis between fixed form and formlessness; object, body, and space.

All exhibitions continue until Sunday 24 September 2006
Gallery hours are Tuesday – Sunday 1.00pm – 6.00pm.

Rijana and Lana from the Peninsula Skate World, in Carrum Downs an outer Melbourne suburb, were in Christchurch New Zealand, during April 2006, to urge on their team mates in town for the “Oceanias Roller Skating Championships.”

Having breakfast at the local McDonald’s Restaurant in Papanui Road, they were surprised when team New Zealand had the same idea and turned up for breakfast as well.  We couldn’t let a photo opportunity go by, and Team New Zealand were only too happy to oblige.

Australian competitors performed extremely well. The roller skating artistic championships are held each year at various locations around Australia and New Zealand and promote healthy life style exercise alternatives, for young people.

The shows is filled with glitter and chezzy glamour. A must if you are eurovision fan.
